Catalysing’ change by sharing knowledge, skills and campaigns to generate greater impact than as an individual, or school.

Intro from the Students
‘Avon Schools Eco-Network (ASEN) has been meeting since late 2020 to discuss sustainability and get to know each other. Students meet fortnightly for an hour on-line during the week and face-to-face at events.
This network builds a platform of facts and opinions for young people from any background to have discussions with specialists and influential contacts. This helps us produce more sustainable strategies to tackle the important issues we face as a society. We aim to turn any eco-anxiety into a sense of eco-agency through this action.
Being part of this network is a great way to meet like-minded students with whom you can share ideas and knowledge, as well as working together on projects that will hopefully bring change. The benefits of networks even help with eco-anxiety. here is some feedback from ASEN students

Schools
Primary Schools
Year 5 and 6 students are accompanied by their own staff for online and face to face meetings but are also mentored by both senior students from the network and our adult mentors.
We create an atmosphere where students share their recent eco projects and what they learnt, even from funny mistakes!
Secondary Schools
Year 09 to 13 students from across Bristol and Bath are mentored by environmental educators, staff and professionals working in schools, universities, media and green industry.
Our students regularly contribute to UK Schools Sustainability Network, our national network, in meetings and at events. There are close links with the Somerset Climate Justice Network, another member of the UKSSN.

School Staff
This network supports a vibrant and free space for cross-pollination, ideas, materials, events, waiting for you! The staff whatsapp group and TEAMs channels invariably flag up projects and problems similar to yours. The momentum is generated by open discussion between eco-leads in schools in the area and nationally. Click here for more info from national network (UKSSN.org.uk)…
Even the senior schools students should have a member of staff from their school listening to meetings, as the safeguarding control remains with the school. The network aims for the highest standard of safeguarding assessed from all the schools in the area.
School grounds and buildings are wrapped into the projects so it is very helpful to include Head teachers and school business leaders.
National Network
UKSSN aims:
- Maximise influence together on climate and environmental action
- Representing the collective voice of students to COP26, local and national government
- Workplace and life skills for students
- Strengthening student voice, written and digital communication skills
- Emotional & practical shared space for like-minded students & staff
- Arranging safe and productive meeting places for mutual and practical encouragement
- Student-led but school-based and supported by teachers
- Aimed at all students not just youth activists

Calling students and staff from Bristol, Bath and surrounding areas: get in touch if you’d like your school to join! Students should ask a teacher to join too and then, using their school email address, write to us and copy in the teacher.
If you would like to come to a meeting, even just to listen with your video off, you are very welcome. All you need to do is find a staff rep at your school, and then email them as well as Avon Schools Eco-Network to say that you are keen.
